The 2023 Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film was a welcome return to the glitz and glamour the live event is known for, especially since it’s three year absence in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Besides the stars in attendance like Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman, Sean Penn, Cate Blanchett, and many more – the market side of the industry event brought a lot of dazzle as well.
Canadian filmmaker Ant Horasanli attended the festival and market to meet with buyers and financers for a number of projects that were recently completed and a select few that are now in development. Chief among them was the third season of the award-winning action series ‘Petrol‘ as well as the bold and daring new film ‘Harmony‘.
Although the weather was hit-and-miss, sales and acquisitions were steady for the filmmaker’s production company N5 Pictures, which aims to move into production on two projects later this year, the aforementioned ‘Harmony’ and a subsequent season for the award-winning digital series ‘The Runner‘.
Ant met with several Canadian and international producers, distributors, and financiers including several prominent filmmakers from Wallonia-Brussels at an industry networking event organized by Ontario Creates and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
